Northern Mockingbird Fledgling
Northern Mockingbirds are medium-sized songbirds. Adults have small heads, long, thin bills, and long legs. Their color pattern is an overall gray-brown color that is more pale on the breast and belly, with two white wingbars on each wing. The juvenile appearance is marked by streaks on its back, spots and streaks on its chest, and a gray or grayish-green iris. Young birds leave the nest about 12 days after hatching, not able to fly well for about another week.

The northern mockingbird is the only mockingbird commonly found in North America. This bird is mainly a permanent resident, but northern birds may move south during harsh weather.
