Late Oysters Able to persist through the cold, snowy winter, these mushrooms had brown caps with cinnamon-tan gills. The caps ranged in size from about 2cm wide, and they were somewhat fan-shaped. "Sarcomyxa serotina", commonly known as the late oyster, is a species of fungus in the family Mycenaceae. Fruit bodies grow as overlapping fan- or oyster-shaped caps on the wood of both coniferous and deciduous trees.
