Grey Heron (Ardea Cinerea)
As the sunlight was dimming on our side of the planet, I was on a lookout for any winged beauties around me and as I reached the lake in the picture, there it was, standing like a twig in white, black and what appeared to be blue shades on its wings at a safe distance. This was the best my 600 mm lens could reach to capture this beautiful predatory wading bird from the Heron family that looks very relaxed.

The grey heron is a wading bird of the heron family Ardeidae, native throughout temperate Europe and Asia and also parts of Africa. It is resident in the milder south and west, but many birds retreat in winter from the ice in colder regions. It has become common in summer even inside the Arctic circle along the Norwegian coast.
