  1. Hi Ferdy, I'm pretty sure a male Scarlet would never show this much red in the wings, they should be essentially be jet black in an adult male like this. See https://ebird.org/species/scatan
    I think your bird is a male Summer (not unusual for them to have dark edging on the wing feathers, e.g. https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/212187601), though your female is indeed a Scarlet.

    1. I wasn't initially convinced by this ID challenge. Then after researching, the weight of the evidence pointing in your direction crushed me.

The Summer Tanager, is a medium-sized American songbird. Formerly placed in the tanager family, it and other members of its genus are now classified in the cardinal family. The species's plumage and vocalizations are similar to other members of the cardinal family.
