        By the way, I think the species identification is not correct. It does look like some kind of owl butterfly, but it's not the Giant Owl species specifically. You can see how the species you photographed looks quite different from the Giant Owl:

          1. Given the eye patterns it's understandable to assume it's an owl butterfly, but it's not. It's a morpho butterfly instead. The 7 eyes give it away. The tricky thing is that there's multiple blue morpho species, so for now I've identified it as the most common one.

"Morpho peleides", the Peleides blue morpho, common morpho or the emperor is an iridescent tropical butterfly found in Mexico, Central America, northern South America, Paraguay and Trinidad. Most authorities believe that "peleides" is a subspecies of "Morpho helenor".
