
English Plantain - Plantago lanceolata
Oblong spike of flowers on the end of a leafless stalk arising from a basal rosette of long, narrow leaves. The small flowers are densely crowded together and face in all directions along the spike. The spike becomes light brown and more cylindrical as the flowers bloom from the bottom to the top. The flowers are wind-pollinated, and are replaced by small seed capsules.

Plantago lanceolata is a species of genus Plantago known by the common names ribwort plantain, English plantain, buckhorn plantain, and narrowleaf plantain. It is a common weed of cultivated land.
