
Geoffroy's spider monkey, "Ateles geoffroyi", also known as black-handed spider monkey, is a species of spider monkey, a type of New World monkey, from Central America, parts of Mexico and possibly a small portion of Colombia.

They have been followed by researchers and students nearly uninterruptedly for over twenty years, so they are completely habituated to humans. This, combined with the low canopy and these monkeys' unusual tendency to often come down to the ground (due to the lack of predators), makes it probably one of the best places on the American continent to observe wild spider monkeys.
