The first of a little series on the spider monkey group we followed in Punta Laguna.
They have been followed by researchers and students nearly uninterruptedly for over twenty years, so they are completely habituated to humans. This, combined with the low canopy and these monkeys' unusual tendency to often come down to the ground (due to the lack of predators), makes it probably one of the best places on the American continent to observe wild spider monkeys. Thanks! The first thing I had to do when I got there was learn to recognize all 38 monkeys in the group. It was difficult at first but getting good pictures of them really helped highlight how distinct each individual monkey looks! Posted 7 years ago
