  1. This very cute fellow was sitting out in the open in broad daylight, and very conspicuous. I was actually surprised nothing had eaten it yet! After taking a few photos, I put a leaf over it to cover it, and checked back in periodically until nightfall. I never saw it again after that, though... Posted 7 years ago, modified 7 years ago

The mahogany tree frog is a species of frog in the family Hylidae found in Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Nicaragua.

Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, freshwater marshes, intermittent freshwater marshes, pastureland, rural gardens, and heavily degraded former forests. It is threatened by habitat loss.
