I spotted this cicada on a picnic table in a mixed forest bordering a river and meadow. It was resting a couple inches away from its exuviae, where it must have recently eclosed from. I found numerous other cicadas and exuviae in the area of this one. This species of cicada is highly variable pattern and coloration. This spotting shows the green morph, which typically has a green and black pattern and was about 4cm long.

I spotted this cicada on a picnic table in a mixed forest bordering a river and meadow. It was resting a couple inches away from its exuviae, where it must have recently eclosed from. I found numerous other cicadas and exuviae in the area of this one.

  1. It seems that Tibicen canicularis is a synonym for Neotibicen canicularis. But, Tibicen canicularis is no longer the preferred taxonomy for this species. Posted 7 years ago
