Saprobic mushrooms with conical, knobbed caps that were tan with blood red margins. Gills were distant and cream-colored with red on the edges.

When squeezed or cut, the flesh and stipe ooze a red blood-like latex. The species name "haematopus" literally means "blood-foot" in Greek.

    1. This was a cool one! The "blood" was all collected around the margin of the cap. I couldn't get it to drip - I think it was too old, but it made for a cool effect. Posted 6 years ago

"Mycena haematopus", commonly known as the bleeding fairy helmet, is a species of fungus in the Mycenaceae family, of the order Agaricales. It is widespread and common in Europe and North America, and has also been collected in Japan and Venezuela.
