Tetratomid Beetles
In this genus the two species are most easily separated by the color of the scutellum. P. obliquata has an orange scutellum, while in P. pimelia the scutellum is black. There were three of these beetles "snuggling" under the bark of a decaying log.

Penthe obliquata is a beetle in the Tetratomidae family. The Tetratomidae are a small family of beetles with no vernacular common name, though recent authors have coined the name polypore fungus beetles. The family consists of several genera, and can be found worldwide.
