  1. This is such an neat species, the only member of its genus in Yucatan, but restricted to a tiny coastal strip on the north of the peninsula. I really wanted to see it, so I memorized its song and calls, set aside a whole half day, and traveled to a spot overrun with enormous black mosquitoes... And of course, I saw it within thirty seconds of stepping out of the car, and ran into about ten or twelve vocal, conspicuous birds within a couple of hours! Posted 7 years ago

The Yucatan wren is a species of bird in the Troglodytidae family. It is endemic to Mexico. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, and it is only found on the narrow coastal strip of the northern Yucatán Peninsula. One of the key habitats of this species is the Petenes mangroves ecoregion of the Yucatan coast. It is threatened by habitat destruction.
