Lanceolated monklet - closeup, Tatama National Park, Colombia I love this bird for its beautiful earth tones, but even more so for its behavior. Instead of fleeing like most birds, it poses as if to ensure we gets its good side. Side view:<br />

  1. Another very cool bird. I was just wondering, do you know how many species of birds you have seen/photographed? Posted 7 years ago
    1. That's an interesting question! My total number of species photographed that are identified is currently 1,733, but I'm not sure how many of them are birds without going through that large list :) Based on 10 years of travel and at least a few dozen per trip, It's several hundreds. The lanceolated monklet is a species of bird in the Bucconidae family, the puffbirds. It is the only member of the genus ''Micromonacha''. Its natural habitats are subtropical and tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical and tropical moist montane forests.
