Small, brown mushroom with a scaly cap and stalk. The stalk base bruises bluish green.

Cap 1โ€“5cm across, convex to bell-shaped, dark brown, covered in erect pointed scales. Stem 30โ€“70ยด5โ€“10mm, concolorous with cap, apex paler, covered in recurved brown scales, base with bluish-green down. Flesh white becoming reddish, bluish-green at stem base. Taste mild, smell fishy or acidic. Gills whitish later rusty-brown.
