
Hackberry Emperor - Asterocampa celtis
Brown butterfly with distinctive spots and a somewhat variable pattern. The forewing has one submarginal eyespot, a jagged row of white spots, and the discal cell has one black bar and two separate black spots. The hindwings have a row of black eyespots that are yellow ringed with blue centers.
The species name "celtis" is the genus for Hackberry, which is the butterfly's host plant.
