  1. So beautiful! I knew fungi were beautiful, but you so reinforced this once again the last weeks. Thank you for that. Posted 7 years ago
    1. You're welcome and thank you! I only started getting interested in fungi a couple years ago and had always been a bug person before that. But, I was quickly dazzled by the variety, intricacy, and beauty of fungi once I started noticing them! Posted 7 years ago
      1. Any tips on identifying them? I worked with Coprinus congregates when I was at the University of California, and they are truly amazing organisms. However, I find it very challenging to try and identify them in the field. I am in Europe, any ID sites that you can recommend? Posted 7 years ago
        1. I'm not very good at identification yet, so I rely on help! Some excellent sites for identifying mushrooms (worldwide) are Mushroom Observer (you can submit photos and they help with ID), MushroomExpert.com (great info), and there are also Facebook pages where you post photos and people help with ID: The Mushroom Identification Group is good, as is The Mushroom Identification Forum - and I believe both are worldwide. "Amanita flavoconia" is a species of mushroom in the family Amanitaceae. It has an orangish-yellow cap with yellowish-orange patches or warts, a yellowish-orange annulus, and a white to orange stem. Common and widespread throughout eastern North America, "Amanita flavoconia" grows on the ground in broad-leaved and mixed forests, especially in mycorrhizal association with hemlock.
