Red Admiral sucking apple dry
The Red Admiral looks a lot different with its wings collapsed. Here it is having an apple snack in our garden, the reason it is there in the first place. Red Admirals come into the Netherlands from the south of Europe to raise a new generation here. You have a chance to spot them everywhere between may and november.

The Red Admiral is a well-known colourful butterfly, found in temperate Europe, Asia and North America. The Red Admiral has a 45–50 mm wing span. The species is resident only in warmer areas, but migrates north in spring, and sometimes again in autumn.
