Chromis Firewing, Tatama National Park, Colombia Found on the floor in Tatama National Park. In a bad shape, with severely damaged wings. I only noticed the tiny bee-like insects back home, not sure if they were actively attacking the butterfly. Found on the floor in Tatama National Park. In a bad shape, with severely damaged wings. I only noticed the tiny bee-like insects back home, not sure if they were actively attacking the butterfly.

Catonephele chromis, the Chromis Firewing, is a nymphalid butterfly in the Catonephele genus, which contains 11 species. The males are dark brown on the upperside with dazzling reflective orange patches which vary in size and shape from one species to another. The females are entirely different in appearance. In most species their dark brown wings are marked with linear rows of cream spots.
