
Mouthful full of Eggs
Frostfin Cardinalfish - Apogon hoevenii is pale yellowish brown head and mauve body; white edged 1st dorsal fin, small white spot below base of last dorsal ray.
Cardinalfishes are mouth brooders, meaning the incubates their eggs in their mouth and it is the males who does that. During the incubation period, he doesn't feeds but may accidently swallows a few eggs when he 'spits and swallows' the eggs to aerate them.

''Ostorhinchus hoevenii'' is a Cardinalfish from the Indo-West Pacific. It occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade. It grows to a size of 6cm in length.

Its a small fish and the size of the eggs are max of 2mm and this one was reluctant to opens his mouth to show his babies :( Posted 7 years ago
