Calycopis cecrops - Red-Banded Hairstreak
25 mm gray-brown (underside) Lycaenid butterfly with a vibrant red-orange post median line and two-tailed hindwings.
Habitat:
Nectaring on Hoary Mountain mint (Pycnanthemum incanum) in a sunlit clearing (dirt road) near thick mixed hardwood forest.

The red-banded hairstreak is a butterfly native to the southeastern United States. It feeds on fallen leaves of sumac species and other trees. Its size ranges from 0.9–1.25 inches. It lives near coastal areas.
