Lactifluus volemus - Weeping Milkcap
Bright orange mushroom with pale cream gills which ooze sticky, milky latex when damaged. I've heard that this mushroom is quite delicious--but it has yet to make it home to my table due to the absolutely horrible "dead fish" smell it puts out once it has been picked. The compounds responsible for the smell break down when cooked.
Habitat:
Growing out of thick mulch under hardwood trees in a dense mixed hardwood forest at the base of a high ridge.

"Lactifluus volemus", formerly known as "Lactarius volemus", is a species of fungus in the family Russulaceae. It is widely distributed in the northern hemisphere, in temperate regions of Europe, North America and Asia as well as some subtropical and tropical regions of Central America and Asia.
