Armillaria mellea - Honey Fungus
Golden-capped mushrooms (in clusters) with white gills which are decurrent down to a pale yellow ring. Stipe is white with yellow flocculence. Spore print is white. Armillaria mellea is a plant pathogen that causes root rot in multiple plants. This is a highly sought after edible--but many individuals present with intolerance to this species.

Growing in clusters along the base of a dense mixed hardwood ridge.

Armillaria mellea is a basidiomycete fungus in the genus "Armillaria". It is a plant pathogen and part of a cryptic species complex of closely related and morphologically similar species. It causes Armillaria root rot in many plant species and produces mushrooms around the base of trees it has infected.
