
Exsudoporus frostii - Frost's Bolete (pore surface)
Bright red boletus fungus with red pore surface and deeply reticulate red stem. Pore surface exuding golden droplets was already bruised deep blue to purple upon inspection.
Habitat:
Growing under the mulch of several oaks and a few loblolly pines (this species has a mycorrhizal association with oaks and hardwoods). Mostly shaded area.

Previously known as Exsudoporus frostii. This bolete fungus is easily identified by its sticky red cap, dark bluing reaction, and golden exudate droplets.
