Growing under the mulch of several oaks and a few loblolly pines (this species has a mycorrhizal association with oaks and hardwoods). Mostly shaded area.<br />

Previously known as Exsudoporus frostii. This bolete fungus is easily identified by its sticky red cap, dark bluing reaction, and golden exudate droplets.
