African Penguin close-up One of the things I really wanted to see on our Garden Route trip were the African Penguins. The best place to see them is at Boulders Beach, about a 45-min drive south of Cape Town, and it is really a wonderful place to see penguins. You can walk along a boardwalk and get quite close to them. I have seen penguins in the Galapagos and in Australia, but this is the best place to get close and take photos. The African Penguin

The African Penguin, also known as the Black-footed Penguin is a species of penguin, confined to southern African waters. It is also widely known as the "Jackass" Penguin for its donkey-like bray, although several species of South American penguins produce the same sound.
