Jumping Spider (Phiippus clarus) A hairy brown, cream, and gray Salticid (jumping spider) seen on tall grasses after my husband mowed nearby. This spider belongs to the Phidippus genus. It has orange to brown markings above four pairs of eyes, cream-colored chelicerae, striped legs, and interesting dark brown and white markings on abdomen.
Habitat:
Tall grass in full sun. Nearby hurricane lilies and hardwood trees.
Notes:
It really liked following me around (and kept several eyes on me) as I photographed it.
1. My theory on jumping spiders being curious towards humans is that they see themselves in the reflection of the lens. Just a theory though, either way it is a cute behavior. Posted 4 years ago

''Phidippus clarus'' is a species of jumping spider found in old fields throughout eastern North America. It often waits upside down near the top of a plant, which may be useful for detecting prey, and then quickly jumps down before the prey can escape.
