Can reach 25 cm. <br />
Soft dorsal and anal fins covered with scales. Dark brown vertical bar runs along gill opening to pectoral fin. Body deep, compressed and robust; reddish above, paling to silvery below. Spinous dorsal fin with red and white markings. Edges of all fins are white. Preopercular spine not prominent. Lobes of caudal, soft dorsal and anal fins pointed. <br />
Found from shallow coral reefs to offshore deeper waters. A nocturnal species aggregating around coral reefs and deeper rocky reefs. Feeds mainly on planktonic organisms. Occasionally found swimming upside down.<br />

"Myripristis jacobus" is a soldierfish from the Western Atlantic. It occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade. It grows to a size of 25 cm in length.
