Azure Vase Sponge Sep 13, night dive in Bari Reef. Pink to purple and fluoresces light blue. Quite abundant in all different dive sites of Bonaire.<br />
Vase-shaped or tube form with the outer surface displaying grooves and/or rounded pits. Terminal vent somewhat constricted, with a transparent, thin collar. Vases mostly solitary, but occasionally there are small side-tubes. Inner walls smooth, somewhat ridged lengthwise, with scattered oscules, 1-5 mm in diameter. Vases up to 27 cm in height, 13.5 cm in diameter. <br />

The Azure vase sponge is a species of sponge known by the scientific name Callyspongia plicifera . It is known as the world's most colorful sponge. It can come in blue, purple, or pink and is also shaped like a vase. Its skeletal structure is a complicated system of sponge fibers. The outside is very bumpy but the inside is very smooth. The sponge reproduces both sexually and asexually. Sexually mixes an egg with a sperm which then flies away and becomes a new sponge where it lands. Asexually is.. more
