  2. I know you have a great knowledge about specie names. But this one is currently identified as an allium, but to me it really looks more like a 'kogeldistel'.

      1. Almost there, but this looks like the Echinops bannaticus 'Taplow Blue' variety. Echinops sphaerocephalus is rather whitish. Posted 12 years ago
        1. You could be right but "Echinops sphaerocephalus" was the name on the nametag next to this plant at a nature education center, that's why I identified it as "Echinops sphaerocephalus".
          The "Echinops sphaerocephalus" can also be light blue or going to white I just read. The Echinops sphaerocephalus 'Niveus' is the really white one.

          1. Well in this case it should be correct.
            The one I have uploaded is a wild type white.

Echinops bannaticus is a species of flowering plant in the family Asteraceae, native to southeastern Europe. It is an herbaceous perennial thistle, growing to 120 cm (47 in), with prickly foliage and spherical blue flower heads in summer.
