Red Shouldered Hawk At least I think it's a Red shouldered hawk.. I was in my front yard shooting some songbirds when they all vanished and this guy landed on my feeder. I was able to follow it across the street where it landed on the sign for the elementary school and get some great shots of this handsome predator. The red-shouldered hawk is a medium-sized buteo. Its breeding range spans eastern North America and along the coast of California and northern to northeastern-central Mexico. It is a permanent resident throughout most of its range, though northern birds do migrate, mostly to central Mexico. The main conservation threat to the widespread species is deforestation.
