Filamentous Lichen (Stereocaulon ramulosum) A highly branched grey-blue lichen which is made up of symbiotic alga and fungus. The branches eventually become more filamentous opening out to form loose clusters with the branching tips bearing tiny brown spore bearing apothecia (seen in the previous photo). Filamentous Lichen (Stereocaulon ramulosum)

A highly branched grey-blue lichen which is made up of symbiotic alga and fungus. The branches eventually become more filamentous opening out to form loose clusters with the branching tips bearing tiny brown spore bearing apothecia (seen in the previous photo). In this photo the intricately folded bluish growths are cephalodia which are part fungus and part cyanobacterium.
