Ferdy, this looks very much like a barnacle goose to me.

    Thanks! This was taken at a zoo 5 years ago, and I honestly cannot remember how I came to my original assessment. It was oddly specific, so I must have had a reason for it. Posted 8 years ago

The Barnacle Goose

The Barnacle Goose belongs to the genus "Branta" of black geese, which contains species with largely black plumage, distinguishing them from the grey "Anser" species. Despite its superficial similarity to the Brent Goose, genetic analysis has shown it is an eastern derivative of the Cackling Goose lineage.
