  1. Hi Ferdy. Looking at your other photo, plus what is online, I am fairly confident that this photo shows another species of Maxillaria. I'm looking especially at the way all the flowers grow from one inflorescence, rather than each flower being borne at a different point between 2 leaves. The leaves are also quite different. Unfortunately, I'm afraid I don't know what this species this one might be... Posted 7 years ago
    1. Thanks for checking! I admit that I was in doubt when identifying this. I based it mostly on this:
      https://www.flickr.com/photos/andreaskay/11076841626

And now I'm not even sure if that other photo is of the same species, although the photo was taken one minute apart, it could be just a coincedence. I'll post both photos to an orchid group to check what they think. Will correct things here once I know more.

      1. The two photos are not of the same species. I am not sure about the other one, but I agree with Thibaud that this is not Maxillaria embreei. I searched a few Colombian orchid galleries but I couldn't find a good match for this one either. The full list of Maxillaria species is too long.

        1. Thanks, removed for now. Good news that they are two species, bad news that it will be hard to identify them. No news yet from the orchids group. Posted 7 years ago
            1. That looks like a super solid match, thanks for the research!

I did run into that Flickr group a few weeks ago by accident but hadn't investigated it very closely. It's a great resource it seems. Will keep it handy as I have several more orchids upcoming.

As a tip: starting from page 4 in the photo pool...
              https://www.flickr.com/groups/colombianorchids/pool/page4

...there's tons of Lepanthes species which are incredible and got me excited about orchids. It's getting late here, but I'll see if I can join some Flickr groups tomorrow, to access their discussion boards. Good night and thanks once again!

              1. Orchids are beautiful, no doubt about that.
It's 1 hour later here... good night.

            2. Upon species creation, I noticed that eol.org does not acknowledge Maxillaria tenebrifolia yet. Could be because it's a relatively recent species. Since several sources claim the name, creating it anyway. Posted 7 years ago
              1. Maxillaria tenebrifolia is an orchid in the Maxillaria tenebrifolia genus???
Is this the best you've got from all the information in the links above?

                1. There's no need to get snarky. I create a minimum species record to get it identified, removing it from unidentified and making it appear in the species browser.

I'm not sure what you're implying, but I don't appreciate the tone at all.

                  1. Sorry, that's what happens when you stay too late at night trying to get photos off the unidentified list.
We've discussed it a couple of times, including a reminder I sent you in my email two days ago but you seem to forget about it. A longer description would be more valuable and eductional but even in one sentence you could include more information when it is available. More details here

            3. Found this one as well:

Cyrtochilum sp, Tatama National Park, Colombia To be identified orchid species found in the Tatama National Park cloud forest. I've asked an orchid group for identification, so far it seems to be the Cyrtochilum genus. Now I'm really going to bed. Orchids keeping me up at night, who would have thought.
