  2. Sooo much red indeed. The problem with the too-much-red sensor overfeed you described sounds familiar to me. A few months ago I tried to shoot a very red flower in macro, so with a lot of red in the frame too. It was highlighted by a healthy dose of sunlight. When trying to capture it I noticed serious blurring and 'sick' representation of the image captured on camera compared to what was the flower itself. Pink and blurry was the result. I did not do manual white balance, just shot at A, F1.8, ISO100.

The Scarlet Ibis is a species of ibis in the bird family ''Threskiornithidae''. It inhabits tropical South America and islands of the Caribbean. In form it resembles most of the other twenty-seven extant species of ibis, but its remarkably brilliant scarlet coloration makes it unmistakable.
