Dicyrtoma fusca var.2
Another confusing colour variant of D. fusca, this one is easily confused with Ptenothrix ciliata. ID by Frans Janssens based on photos by Jan van Duinen of same population. This var. had only been mentioned twice before (from the Czech Republic in 2006 and 2010) before we recorded it from the Netherlands.
Dicyrtoma fusca is globular Springail (Collembola: Symphypleona) in the family Dicyrtomidae. It is a very variable species with colour variants that can look deceptively like species from other genera.
