Phantom Hemlock Looper I gather from BugGuide that this isn't always particularly common, but this year the area has a population boom. I saw, I think at least 4 of these yesterday, all dead. It must have been just a bit too cold last night, or perhaps they've just laid their eggs and finished their life cycle. Nepytia phantasmaria, the phantom hemlock looper, is a species of geometrid moth in the family Geometridae. It was described by Herman Strecker in 1899 and is found in North America.
