Is it in a different life stage? Or just a misidentification? Posted 7 years ago
It is a misidentification. I have collected the orange beetle in Brisbane which is subfamily; Cryptocephalinae
http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_leafbeetles/OrangeCylinder.htm
Paropsisterna is always hemispherical with flanges of the elytra which extend to the ground. Aporocera are always cylindrical. Paropsisterna elliptica is endemic to the Perth region according to Blackburn (1899) in his species description.
ALA does not care too much for its accuracy and corrections are not easy to make once it is online. My image will be uploaded shortly and the mistaken species will then become quite obvious when seen beside a correct image.
Several phone apps such as questagame allow enthusiasts to post guesses without a view for accuracy. They do now have some staff who assist in ID, just as you and Wildflower etc, do for JD. Questagame has one staff member who now checks with me before allowing uploads of leaf beetles. :) Posted 7 years ago
