  1. Awesome photo, species and name! Posted 7 years ago
    1. Thanks! Americans, who probably can't handle Güldenstädt's name, call it the white-winged redstart, which is a lot less fun, in my opinion.
Also, for some reason, this photo doesn't register as having been taken in Georgia, do you know why?

      1. I saved the geotag again, without moving it, and this time it does pick up the country. Sorry for the inconvenience. Posted 7 years ago
        1. No worries. Thanks! Posted 7 years ago
  2. Wow, amazing photo of a seldom seen bird. I agree that the real name is better. Although Georgian Redstart might have been even cooler. Posted 7 years ago
    1. Thanks! That wouldn't be super fair, though, since the caucasus really is the westernmost extent of its distribution! Posted 7 years ago
      1. Fair enough, but I always prefer Geographical, poetic, or habitat names to simple descriptions or little known naturalists (or even worse, friends, family, or rulers of naturalists). I always loved the old name for the White-throated Kingfisher: the Smyrna Kingfisher. I was also horrified to discover that one of my newest Life Birds, called the "Magnificent Hummingbird" in my old bird book has recently been split and is now called the Rivoli's Hummingbird! Argh (the other one is the Admirable Hummingbird?? What is so admirable and why didn't at least one stay as magnificent??). Posted 7 years ago
