1. Ha, you went to the birdshow too? Hard to capture hey, from that sitting position on the benches, at least it was for me. Nice park, it improved a lot since the last time I visited some 30 years ago;)
Nutty vulture This is the only member of the vulture family Gypohierax. The Palm-nut vulture is one of the rarest vultures in Africa.
In flight, as you might already have guessed, it does not resemble a vulture at all, but is more like the mighty eagle.
It is called the palm-nut vulture, because besides dead fish carion it really really likes the nuts of the palm tree. Funny thing that. Beekse bergen,Geotagged,Gypohierax angolensis,Palm-nut Vulture,The Netherlands

    1. Yes, very hard to capture. My 500mm lens which I had attached simply is too slow for this bird show. 9 out of 10 of my shots were blurred. Posted 13 years ago

The Palm-nut Vulture is a very large bird of prey in the family Accipitridae. It is the only member of the genus "Gypohierax". Unusual for Birds of Prey, it feeds mainly on the fruit of the oil-palm though it also feeds on crabs, molluscs, locusts, fish and has been known to occasionally attack domestic poultry.
