
Crimson crested woodpecker, Inírida, Colombia
Very large woodpecker that we could hear from far as it was knocking on this dead tree. The Crimson crested woodpecker is similar to the Lineated woodpecker. The main difference (according to the Colombia birds book) is that the Crimson crested woodpecker has two white streaks connecting like a "V", whereas the streaks of the Lineated woodpecker do not connect.

The crimson-crested Woodpecker is a very large woodpecker which is a resident breeding bird from Panama south to northern border regions of Argentina, and on Trinidad.
