African Spurred Tortoise
Seems happy enough while out and about for a stroll...
*I would like to note that generally all of my subjects are taken in their natural environment, however, I came across this particular tortoise at a car show in Belleville, Ontario. Not exactly its natural habitat, and rather it was a part of a travelling zoo to promote various reptiles and other small critters.
The African spurred tortoise , also called the sulcata tortoise, is an endangered species of tortoise inhabiting the southern edge of the Sahara Desert, the Sahel, in Africa. It is the largest mainland species of tortoise in Africa, and the third-largest in the world, after the Galapagos tortoise and Aldabra giant tortoise. It is the only living species in its genus, ''Centrochelys.''
