Desert Box Turtle in the road I saw this one while driving to Oliver Lee State Park in New Mexico for some early morning birdwatching. There was no one else on the roads, but I still stopped and helped him safely to the other side. Nice to have a photo from its natural range. The desert box turtle is a subspecies of box turtle which is endemic to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico.
