Roman snail (Helix pomatia)
Roman snails can reach an age of 10 years. This one was among the largest I have ever seen so it might be that old as well.
The Roman snail is a specially protected specie in Germany, but is eaten in France where they call it escargots.
Dutch name: Wijngaardslak
