  1. My guess if they were attacking this ladybug because they eat the aphids that the ants cherish and protect. Or, of course they could be just hungry :) Great shot! Posted 13 years ago
    1. Indeed, normally ants only attack ladybugs when they are near the aphids, but this scene was on a vertical concrete wall without any aphids near. The ants where really going for the kill.
Ladybugs do have a chemical detergent to fend against ants, but this time it did not work out for the ladybug.

(btw. I know this is just the way things go in nature.)

      1. True, the insect world is brutal. It scares me and fascinates me at the same time. Posted 13 years ago
  2. Hello Joost

I really liked this pic. I am a musician and I wanted to ask you if we could use this picture for publishing it as an artwork to one of our singles called "Under attack"? Photo credit will go back to your name, of course. Let me know:)

"Harmonia axyridis", most commonly known as the harlequin, multicoloured Asian, or Asian ladybeetle, is a large coccinellid beetle. This is one of the most variable species in the world, with an exceptionally wide range of colour forms.
