Eristalis pertinax (dronefly) i found this one in the park near my home. unfortunatly the head isnt really sharp. i am not happy with that. probably was because there was some wind and it moved the dronefly enough to be unsharp at the head. i also tried to get more of an i look at you feeling. i am curious to know what you guys think of it and what should be better. i pesonally arent really happy, but i want to learn to get better and that is also the reason i still wanted to put it on jugledragon, to learn.<br />

        1. ah thanks for the identifying. i now seem to have found the appropriate species. eristalis pertinax. also knwon as the drone fly or kegelbij vlieg in dutch. if it isnt right let me know, as i am not the best with identifying. Posted 8 years ago
          1. It is possible, although the spots on the body are not very clearly visible. Posted 8 years ago
            1. hmm okay, this is what i found out. but i dont know if you may have a species that is closer? i will look again and if i find something different i will change the species. thanks for helping everyone by the way. Posted 8 years ago
  2. I think it is sharp enough, Rudolph. Only when you enlarge it on a large screen one can see it is slightly moved, but only just slightly. Posted 8 years ago
    1. okay, thanks for the compliment. yes, it indeed moved a bit. i am happy that it doesnt bother atleast you too much. Posted 8 years ago

"Eristalis pertinax" is a European hoverfly, also known as the drone fly. Like "Eristalis tenax", the larva of "E. pertinax" is a rat-tailed maggot and lives in drainage ditches, pools around manure piles, sewage, and similar places containing water badly polluted with organic matter.
