Yellow-Bellied Sea Snake - Hydrophis platurus
The Yellow-Bellied Sea Snake - Hydrophis platurus is also known as Pelagic Sea Snake.
We saw this one at night, stranded at the beach during low tide, it was looking lethargic and hardly moving, but we can see that it was still alive. We alerted the Resort owner about the Snake and with the knowledge that Sea Snakes are likely to be highly venomous, we were very careful to handle it when the Resort owner said we shall help it. He said the Snake needs to warm up and got his staff to bring a bucket filled with warm water, he then placed the Sea Snake in it. Sure enough, within a few minutes, the Snake was getting very active again, swimming and even tried to strike at us when we tried to get closer for pictures. The Snake was then released into the sea :)

''Hydrophis platurus'', commonly known as the yellow-bellied sea snake, yellowbelly sea snake or pelagic sea snake, is a species of snake from the subfamily Hydrophiinae found in tropical oceanic waters around the world, excluding the Atlantic Ocean. It was the only member of the genus ''Pelamis'' but recent molecular evidence suggests that it is more closely related to the species of the genus ''Hydrophis''.

The Snake is still a wild animal and it is understandable that it is trying to be defensive, we were all very happy to see it behaving feisty again - the will to live! :D Posted 8 years ago
