  1. Great capture. Love the light on the shields.
Did the animals smell badly according to their name? ;-)

    1. Actually I didn't try to sniff them ;)
And the smelly secretion is only excreted when disturbed and I didn't disturb them, they really couldn't be sitting better then this.

  2. Really sharp and awesome contrast. Promoted. Posted 13 years ago
  3. I have a sneaking suspicion these might actually be Palomena viridissima. There are no clear published criteria to ID the nymphs of the two (yet) afaik, but I have a personal theory about that ... but not tested enough.
I'll just add the viridissima name to the tags for now :o)

    1. Thats fine. Just as you probably tried I couldn't find any pictures distinguishing the nymphs. Dutch wiki says like 'adults are hard to distinguish, the nymphs even more so'. And shieldbug nymphs are hard to identify anyways beause there aren't much nymph reference photo's online. Posted 7 years ago

The green shield bug is a shield bug of the family Pentatomidae. It may also be referred to as a green stink bug, particularly outside of Britain, although the name green stink bug more appropriately belongs to the larger North American stink bug, ''Acrosternum hilare''.
