    1. They sit very still on the bottom until you get too close - then they dart off and settle on the bottom again, where they are pretty well camouflaged. I think the white thing is a bit of a dead crab. There were quite a few of these little fish hiding in the pools - usually they were hard to see until they moved. Posted 8 years ago

The tidepool sculpin is a fish species in the sculpin family Cottidae that ranges from the Bering Sea to southern California. Individuals reach up to 8 cm in length and are common in tidepools.
