
Hoatzin, Inírida river, Colombia
A high and a low at the same time. We were in a part of the Inírida river called "black lake", which delivered us some incredible birds, all quite up close. Yet we arrived late and were rapidly losing light. Happy to capture this crazy bird, but I wish I would have done a much better job at it, as it's a stunning subject. This one was part of a couple:

The hoatzin is a species of tropical bird found in swamps, riparian forests, and mangroves of the Amazon and the Orinoco basins in South America. It is the only extant species in the genus "Opisthocomus" which is the only extant genus in the Opisthocomidae family under the order of Opisthocomiformes.
