  2. They were medium small - around the same size as a big ripe fig or an Italian plum. We split one open, wondering if they might be edible, but they look pretty mealy/slimy inside. The wiki does say that native americans used to make medicine from them though - I'll bet they are bitter :p. Posted 8 years ago

"Echinocystis" is a monotypic genus in the gourd/melon/cucumber family Cucurbitaceae, with the sole species "Echinocystis lobata", commonly called "wild cucumber", "prickly cucumber", or "balsam apple".
