Dock bug nymph (Coreus marginatus) This is a 3rd stage nymph of the dock bug, basking in the sun to fasten his growth. He has still another 2 nymph stages (total of 5 stages) to go before reaching adulthood.
I personally regard this picture to be one of my best macro photo's so far because of the exotic looks and posture of the insect combined with the sharpness of the picture.
"Coreus marginatus", commonly called the dock bug, is a species of squash bug. It is a speckled brown insect with a broad abdomen, and is common in most parts of Europe. It is often found in dense vegetation, such as hedgerows and wasteland, where it mainly feeds on the leaves and seeds of docks and sorrels.
